Production and characterisation of self-blowing lignin-based foams

Abstract Self-blowing lignin-furanic foams were produced using formulations comprising Kraft lignin and furfuryl alcohol as the major components. Diethyl ether, Tween 85 sulphuric acid used blowing agent, surfactant catalyst. The influence of components ratio to was investigated with regard foam density, mechanical properties, water absorption, thermal fire behaviour. Depending on formulation, density ranged between 60 320 kg m −3 . Increasing content increased foams. Low-density obtained a higher proportion diethyl ether. compression strength modulus elasticity (MoE) also density. All showed good stability residual masses by thermogravimetric analysis. Cone calorimetric analysis that have poor flammability self-extinguish within few seconds.
